Day 2
Have I mentioned that black coffee is gross? I drank it completely black today. The only thing that helped get it down was the realization that if I was going to drink ANYTHING with flavor at all … I’d better get used to black coffee. It’s still pretty gross! I literally shudder all the way down to my soul when I take a sip!
I’m not hungry when I wake up. I just have a cup of coffee. I’ll keep with the plan — I’ll eat when I’m hungry and not worry about when I’m “supposed” to eat or how often.
I was looking around at my kitchen and realize that I have a lot of food here that we can’t eat and will go to waste if I don’t gather it up and give it to someone else.
First job on the list: the fridge! Can I just say that I hate cleaning the fridge … such a fun job – NOT!
DONE!
All my refrigerator shelves are washed. All the veggies are gone to a new home. The tortillas, crackers, etc. that were in the cupboards also went to a good home. There are a few things still left in there that are not Carnivore. Mainly sour cream and cottage cheese for our bird, BooBoo, and I’m hanging on to some cheese in case The Hubster decides to add it back to his diet. I noticed that I still have salad dressings and coffee creamer in the fridge when this photo was taken. I’ve since removed everything except the Frank’s Hot Sauce, Sriracha Sauce, Dill Relish, Yellow Mustard and Hamburger Dill Chips.
I still have to clear out the cupboards, but that food is shelf stable so there’s no rush on that.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get around to cleaning out the freezer. That freezer scares me and I’m not looking forward to taking everything out. I have no idea what I might find in there. I could be scarred for life!
However, I did grab all of the frozen veggie packages and found them a new home. That makes it a bit easier to see what is in the freezer and, I haven’t mentioned it yet, but also the chest freezer.
I can already tell that cooking meals is going to be so much simpler than it used to be. I am accustomed to making everything from scratch because it’s healthier and it’s much more cost efficient. Before Carnivore, I baked bread every day or every other day. Scratch that off my To-Do List. I normally cook 3 meals per day, 7 days a week plus snacks and desserts. Scratch snacks and desserts off my To-Do List as well.
I’m already down to 2 meals per day and that’s pretty normal for me. The Hubster might be getting close to 2 meals per day. How many meals he’ll eat each day will depend on how much he’s working. Working equals burning calories/fat equals needing more fuel. He knows that when he’s hungry, he needs to eat. Believe me, he doesn’t need to lose any weight, so if he wants to eat 3 meals (or more) a day that’s fine.
I also notice that, obviously, my fridge is much more tidy and there is A LOT more room in there. I don’t have to shoehorn stuff in there any more. There are hardly any meal prep items and very little in the way of leftovers. Meal preparation doesn’t take nearly as long as it used to. Meal Planning is a breeze (yes, I still meal plan) and bonus!! Cleanup is so fast. Usually a single frying pan and/or the air fryer.
I don’t miss vegetables.
I don’t miss sweets.
I do miss beverages with taste. I do miss coffee with hazelnut creamer.
So far, I think this WOE (way of eating) is working out well for both The Hubster and me!
